  • We are told the Sunday Express want to feature us tomorrow. Extra tour today of 40 people who missed last saturday. #
  • Loads of e-mails, cards etc still arriving from people we don't know "inspired and enthusiastic" etc. What have we done…? #
  • Our ventilation system – reclaiming 93% of heat from extracted air – is now working. Condensation has gone with gentle air movement. #

  • We are amazed that 500-600 people visited our Open Day today to see the house: THANK YOU all for you enthusiasm + support! #
  • People still talking about the clay floors… #
  • ITV camera crew visited the zero carbon house for half the day yesterday, and returning today. #
  • Busily snagging. Positive feedback from the week-end and ITV news last night pouring in. #

  • Gave talk at eco building seminar in Worcester; debate about Passivhaus or Code level 6 stds: we must inspire people to go further… #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2009-11-13

  • Negotiators last night "abandoning hope" of climate change deal. Go to http://www.38degrees.org.uk to say DON'T GIVE UP! #
  • Scaffold on front of the house is halfway down, Del says "it looks absolutely terrific!" #
  • Coir for our doormat comes from coconut husks – a renewable resource, unlike plastic which comes from fossil fuels. #
  • Gary starting the front door step with reclaimed bricks – and 200mm of insulation underneath to keep out the cold. #
  • Preparing for OPEN DAY this Saturday 14th 10-4. Painted signs up around Balsall Heath, EST & BHIOP stalls, talks, etc #
  • Sustainable Energy Academy visit to sign us up to "Old Home Super Home" network #
  • Airtightness tests just complete, fantastic result 0.97, more than 10x better than regulations & 28x better than UK av #
  • John has fitted our airtight letterbox plate beautifully, lining up precisely with the sweet chesnut laths. #
  • Tonight's Birmingham Evening Mail features the house in "Go Green" supplement – photo with no scaffolding! #
  • Hemp rope handrail to the staircase being fitted – more renewable & sustainable than stainless steel! #
  • About 30 people on site today finishing off. Gary laying brick paving to the front door, not easy with comings & goings. #
  • At last we are free of all scaffolding! Kitchen worktops, last bits of plumbing, lights, joinery in progress. #
  • All the light (except one!) Now working. Alarms comissioned. Gutter going up. Floors being oiled. Four more stairs to go. #
  • Clay floors are glowing as they are oiled with natural citrus oil. Vacuum cleaners have been going all day. #
  • Now the last light in the hallway is working too! #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2009-11-06

  • Long-awaited garage door has arrived and fits beautifully on round-the-corner sliding mechanism. #
  • Four reclaimed lights (from our old home!) removed and successfully fitted in new house. #
  • No rain and Stuart has finished rendering the front elevation; suddenly the house is looking less like a building site. #
  • Front door has arrived at last after a few glitches. A second inner lobby door, and double seals to all edges, make it fully airtight. #
  • Windows being cleaned, paintwork touched up, door locks fitted; still lots of bits to do, but excitement as we're nearly there… #
